Merrell Casting | Jewellery Services | Cold Silicone Moulds

At Merrell we use cold silicone mounding as specialist service to reproduce delicate items such as hand carved or CAD waxes and resins. This process is also prefferred if you require a reproduction with less shrinkage than can occur in a heated mould.

While these moulds are not as durable as heated rubber moulds, the process of room temperature vulcanising creates a mould that can be used to create hundreds of wax reproductions. We keep your moulds filed in our archive so you can easily call off patterns you have prevously had moulded.

Vulcanisation occurs at room temperature by mixing a silicone solution with a vulcanising catalyst. The mixture is then poured over the item to be moulded in a vacuum. After curing the silicone is precisely cut with a scalpel by a highly skilled mould cutter. Much care and consideration must be put into mould cutting to make sure the mould will produce high quality repoductions by wax injection.

At Merrell Casting we offer two types of moulding; Vulcanised Rubber and Cold Silicone.
